On Friday April 12, 2019, Garden State Comedy will be teaming with the Essex County Opioid Task Force to help raise awareness and funds to help combat the horrible crisis of opioid addiction. The show will feature the legendary comedy duo of McDonald and Carney, as well as comedians Kevin Garifo and Kate Nichols.
The show will be held at the Orange ELKS and the cover charge of only $40 per person will include a professional comedy experience, a full buffet dinner and non-alcoholic beverages. There will be a cash bar also available for guests.
The evening will include laughter, reflection and community healing in an effort to bring people together to recognize the community health crisis that opioid addiction is causing throughout the country. In 2017, over 72,000 Americans died as a result of this disease. According to Task Force Coordinator Robin Lavorato, “The mission of the Essex County Opioid Task Force is anything but simple: they seek to prevent the onset of legal and illegal opioid use to prevent addiction, its subsequent disorders, and overdose deaths.”
All proceeds will be given to raise funds for the Essex Health and Wellness Recovery Center and more specifically to benefit the Task Force’s 2nd Annual Opioid Awareness Walk being held on November 2, 2019. Last year, this event had over 200 volunteers walk from Newark to West Caldwell to raise awareness for opioid addiction.
The night will feature NJ-based comedy duo McDonald and Carney. Rich McDonald and Joe Carney have been seen on national television such as on ABC’s Live With Regis and Kelly, MTV, TruTV, HGTV and commercials. On stage they perform consistently in New York City, Atlantic City, and at resorts and cruises along the east coast.
Only $40 per person donation will include a professional comedy show plus buffet dinner and beverages. Checks may be made to the Essex Health and Wellness Recovery Center. Tickets can be purchased by emailing Robin directly at RLHealthGuide@gmail.com. The Orange Elks is located at 475 Main Street, Orange, NJ 07050.
